We are currently recruiting for our prestigious client, a leading provider of various services:

Job Title: Manager - Structures
Unit: Development Design Department


External Working Relationships:
This role will require interaction with external clients, business partners, operators, consultants, PMC, contractors and sub-contractors, vendors, and local authorities having jurisdiction.


Reporting:
Direct report: Head of Technical Management
Indirect report: None
Responsible for: Structural and Civil Development Design


Job Objective:


  1. Ensure that the structural aspects of project design throughout the RIBA stages 2, 3, and 4 (as applicable) are well-integrated, safe, and efficient, contributing to the successful delivery of the project.
  2. Manage the Structural Design Consultants and cross-functional teams.
  3. Ensure the scope of services is fully integrated and delivers upon the brief, development vision, and budget.
  4. Review, assess, and technically approve structural design documentation from consultants with a focus on project brief and budget adherence, technical compliance, statutory compliance, constructability, and operability.
  5. Ensure that structural design, calculations, models, and specification review comments are considered and integrated within the design proposals.
  6. Lead structural design meetings and provide continuous input to optimize design.
  7. Oversee the Structural Design Stage Work Packages, ensuring integrity, optimization, quality, and coordinated submission of documents.
  8. Assist in technical evaluations, staff deployment analysis, and surveys as required.
  9. Provide technical support to the Asset Management team when needed.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:


  • Collaborate with the Development Design team to ensure project designs align with the budget, development vision, and brief.
  • Develop comprehensive scope-of-services and deliverables for the Design Consultant procurement process.
  • Manage interactions with the Structural Design Consultant, sub-consultants, and any Design Specialist Consultants.
  • Oversee the design process, ensuring timely, high-quality deliverables that meet technical integrity standards.
  • Manage design inputs from stakeholders and coordinate design freeze points to avoid rework.
  • Assess and control the implications of design changes on cost, schedule, and technical aspects.
  • Coordinate conflict resolution generated by design activities.
  • Ensure designs are comprehensive, sustainable, durable, and functional for long-term operation.
  • Provide leadership in structural design review, ensuring compliance with technical and statutory requirements.
  • Champion QA/QC processes for structural designs.
  • Oversee the structural design review process, ensuring consistency and timely consultant responses.
  • Lead meetings and workshops to review and approve designs.
  • Ensure design approval at appropriate gateway stages according to internal processes.
  • Ensure compliance with internal processes for design consultants' work review, deviation monitoring, and remedial actions.
  • Maintain accurate design review documentation and reporting.
  • Drive Value Engineering initiatives and technical assessments during procurement.
  • Manage design RFIs, tender clarifications, and addendums.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain design guidelines and best practices for consultants.
  • Provide structural expertise for group-wide initiatives and strategic goals.

Academic Qualifications and Experience:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural/Civil Engineering or equivalent post-graduate qualification.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant post-qualified experience.
  • Registration with an internationally recognized institution is advantageous.
  • Awareness of the RIBA Plan of Work and relevant Work Stages.
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken).
  • Excellent understanding of local and international codes and regulations.
  • Familiarity with the UAE authority approvals process.
  • Effective leadership and active design management approach.
  • Digitally fluent with the capability to support digital design aspirations.
  • Effective communicator and leader in cross-department design management and technical evaluation teams
